It depends on your time and your building. A weekly bag with LaundryLocal costs $2.19 per pound in NYC or $1.89 on Long Island on a loop. Compare that with your own laundromat machine prices, detergent and the hours you spend, and decide what your Saturday is worth.
| Item | New York City | Long Island | Westchester |

The real cost: pickup vs laundromat vs in-unit
Machine prices vary by laundromat and building, so we don’t quote averages. Do the math with your own numbers:
- Laundromat or laundry room: washers + dryers per load, times loads per week, plus detergent and dryer sheets.
- Pickup: your bag weight times your rate, with pickup and delivery included over the minimum.
Then add the part that never shows up on a receipt: the time.
The hours you get back
A laundromat trip means carrying the bag there, waiting through a wash and a dry, folding, and carrying it home. With pickup you leave the bag at your door in a two-hour window and it comes back folded: in 24–48 hours in NYC and 48–72 hours on Long Island and in Westchester.
Who should stop doing their own laundry
- No washer in the apartment, or a shared laundry room that’s always full.
- Busy weeks, kids, or a commute that eats evenings.
- Anyone who’d rather pay per pound than spend a weekend morning folding.
Who should keep doing it
If you have a washer and dryer at home, enjoy the routine, or only do a small load now and then, doing it yourself is usually cheaper. Pickup is about time, not about beating the cost of your own machine.
Lost items, mixed loads, damage: how we prevent each
Each bag gets a QR tag that is scanned at your door, at the plant, at the folding table and on delivery, with photos at pickup and delivery. Bags are washed on their own. If something is lost or damaged, report it within 7 days from your order page; our garment care & liability policy explains what we cover.
Try it once. Then decide.
Schedule one pickup at the pay-as-you-go rate. If it works for you, switch to a weekly or every-two-weeks loop for the member rate.
